Key points
- Premium-grade tapioca starch fell to 22.10 THB/kg domestically and USD 700/tonne FOB Bangkok — the first decline of 2026 after six consecutive postings at 22.30 THB (TTSA, 15 Sep)
- Nationwide factory-gate fresh roots at 25% starch content moved their floor up again to 3.65-4.30 THB/kg from 3.60 THB a week earlier (TTTA, 15 Sep)
- Starch plants in Nakhon Ratchasima bought 30%-starch roots at 4.00-4.80 THB/kg, the floor 0.10 THB above 7 Sep, with 3 of 11 districts higher, 8 unchanged and none lower (NETTA, 11 Sep)
- Vietnamese mills raised starch offers by another USD 5/tonne to 620-660 FOB Ho Chi Minh City, a second straight weekly increase, narrowing the Thai-Vietnamese gap to USD 40-80/tonne (Vietnam Cassava Association, 14 Sep)
- The nationwide farm-gate average of 3.04 THB/kg still comes from the 3-9 August edition, the most recent the OAE has published publicly
Tapioca starch prices
Three official sources publish different figures on different dates, so all three are shown with the date attached.
| Source | Domestic | Export FOB | As of | Change on the week |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| TTSA (premium grade) | 22.10 THB/kg | USD 700/tonne | 15 Sep 2026 | -0.90% / -0.71% |
| OAE (Bangkok wholesale) | 22.24 THB/kg | USD 689/tonne | 3-9 Aug 2026 | +0.41% / +0.22% |
| TTTA | 21.00-21.40 THB/kg | USD 660-670/tonne | 10 Sep 2026 | Unchanged |
Across the whole of 2026, from the first posting on 6 January at 14.10 THB/kg, the TTSA series had never recorded a decline. It rose or held at every posting until it reached 22.30 THB/kg, where it stayed from 4 August through 8 September.
The 15 September posting is therefore the first turn in this series all year, amounting to 0.20 THB/kg domestically and USD 5/tonne on the export quote.
The TTSA figure is the starch producers’ association reference price, TTTA publishes a trade association range, and the OAE figure is a wholesale price surveyed by a government agency. The three sets are not expected to match.
Fresh cassava roots at three national levels
| Level | Price | Starch content | Source | As of |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Farm-gate (national average) | 3.04 THB/kg | mixed | OAE | 3-9 Aug 2026 |
| Factory gate (national range) | 3.65-4.30 THB/kg | 25% | TTTA | 15 Sep 2026 |
| Starch plant gate (by district, Korat) | 4.00-4.80 THB/kg | 30% | NETTA | 11 Sep 2026 |
Both ranges lifted their floor for a third consecutive week: TTTA from 3.60 to 3.65 THB/kg at 25% starch, and Korat from 3.90 to 4.00 THB/kg at 30% starch. The upper bound of both ranges was unchanged.
Raw material and finished starch therefore moved in opposite directions this week. Roots rose on the same week that the starch quote fell.
The 3-9 August edition remains the most recent OAE bulletin published publicly as this page was compiled. The level-one figure is about five weeks old and does not reflect the increases seen at the two lower levels.
No association publishes district-level prices for the North or Central regions, so readers there should use levels one and two as their reference.

The Vietnamese comparison
The Vietnam Cassava Association published its price table dated 14 September 2026, citing FOB Bangkok at USD 705/tonne — the TTSA figure from 8 September. The gap calculated below therefore uses Thailand’s latest quote of USD 700/tonne.
| Item | Price | Change on the week |
|---|---|---|
| Starch FOB Ho Chi Minh City | USD 620-660/tonne | +5 on both bounds |
| Starch DAF Lang Son | CNY 4,100-4,250/tonne | +100/+150 |
| Chips FOB Quy Nhon/HCMC | USD 320/tonne (Korea) · USD 265/tonne (China) | unchanged |
Vietnamese fresh roots trade in dong per degree of starch content. Converted to a 30% basis for comparison with Thailand:
| Area | VND/kg at 30% | THB/kg at 30% | Change on the week |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tay Ninh (incl. Cambodian roots) | 4,398-4,749 | 5.64-6.08 | upper bound +1.7 VND/degree |
| Dak Lak (Phu Yen) | 3,699-3,999 | 4.74-5.12 | lower bound -6.6 VND/degree |
| Quang Ngai (Kon Tum) | 3,900-3,999 | 5.00-5.12 | unchanged |
| Gia Lai (Binh Dinh) | 3,999-4,050 | 5.12-5.19 | not stated |
Reference exchange rate: 1 THB is approximately 780.5 VND (16 Sep 2026). The week-on-week changes are the figures the Vietnamese association states in its own table.
Gia Lai, buying for Binh Dinh, appears as a new row in this edition and has no prior-week value to compare against.
Against Korat at 4.00-4.80 THB/kg on the same starch basis, Vietnamese roots remain more expensive than Thai roots in every area with a published price.
In the same bulletin the association said many plants in the Central Highlands would start their new season this week, while northern plants plan to begin running in the second half of October 2026.
