How to Source Tapioca Starch from Thailand: A Buyer's Guide

Thailand is a leading origin for tapioca starch. Here's how to evaluate a supplier and what to prepare before requesting a quote.

Thailand is one of the world’s leading origins for tapioca (cassava) starch, supported by a large cassava-growing base and a mature processing industry. For international buyers, sourcing directly from a Thai manufacturer can mean better traceability and a faster response on specifications. Here’s a practical guide to doing it well.

1. Decide native or modified, and the grade

First confirm whether you need native (unmodified) or modified starch — see native vs modified. Then choose the SO₂ grade: ≤10 or ≤30 ppm for food, ≤100 ppm for industrial use. Our SO₂ grades guide explains how to pick.

2. Check certifications

Food-safety certification is the clearest signal of a reliable supplier. Look for FSSC 22000, ISO 22000, HACCP, and GHP, ideally audited by a recognised body such as SGS, plus Halal if you serve Muslim-market food. TQ Industry Starch holds all of these — details are on the certifications page.

3. Confirm packaging and capacity

Standard export packaging for tapioca starch is 30 kg bags and 500 kg or 850 kg jumbo bags (FIBC). Also confirm the supplier’s real production capacity so they can support your volume reliably — TQ Industry Starch runs at around 150 metric tons per day of native tapioca starch.

4. Prepare your enquiry

A precise quotation comes from a precise enquiry. Before you reach out, have ready:

  • Product grade — food or industrial, and the SO₂ level.
  • Volume — per order and, ideally, annual.
  • Destination — port and country, so the supplier can advise routing and logistics.
  • Packaging — 30 kg bags or FIBC.

Commercial terms — MOQ, lead time, Incoterms, payment terms, port of loading, and container loading — are confirmed per order against your requirement, so sharing the details above lets the supplier respond accurately.

5. Request a sample

Always evaluate a sample against your own process before committing to volume. A reputable manufacturer will provide one and a lot-specific Certificate of Analysis on request.
