Raw material heading the other way

In the same week, the Thai Tapioca Trade Association’s table dated 15 September showed fresh roots at 25% starch in a range of 3.65-4.30 THB/kg.

The floor moved up from 3.60 THB a week earlier and 3.50 THB the week before that, while the upper bound stayed put throughout.

The provincial picture matches. The Northeastern Tapioca Trade Association’s announcement of 11 September put 30%-starch roots in Nakhon Ratchasima at 4.00-4.80 THB/kg.

Compared with its 7 September edition, three districts were higher, eight were unchanged, and none moved lower.

Vietnam moves up again

The Vietnam Cassava Association’s market bulletin of 14 September put Vietnamese mill offers at USD 620-660/tonne FOB Ho Chi Minh City, up USD 5 on both bounds from the previous week.

That is a second consecutive increase, after the range had held at USD 610-650 across the 17, 24 and 31 August bulletins.

Overland border prices moved more sharply, with DAF Lang Son at CNY 4,100-4,250/tonne, up by 100 to 150 CNY.

The bulletin cites FOB Bangkok at USD 705, which is the 8 September figure. Measured against Thailand’s latest quote of USD 700, the gap between the two origins stands at USD 40-80/tonne.

The reasons the Vietnamese association gives

The association sets out conditions region by region in its own bulletin, reporting that many plants in the Central Highlands would start their new season during that week.

For the north, it says some plants are clearing warehouse space and completing additional equipment installations, planning to begin running in the second half of October 2026.

In the south and Tay Ninh, it points to higher fuel prices in Cambodia and Laos together with tight fuel supply, making it harder to bring fresh roots from Cambodia into Vietnam.

On chips, the association expects supply in the 2026-2027 season to be very tight, because the root prices paid to starch plants have stayed very high — a level it records as the highest in its history.

These statements are the Vietnam Cassava Association’s own assessments as published in its bulletin dated 14 September 2026.

What this set of numbers shows

Starch and raw material moved in opposite directions this week, a picture that reads directly off the figures all three associations publish.

Buyers whose contracts reference an association price should check which posting date their contract is tied to, since each source publishes on a different day with a different set of numbers.
